I have a CD drive that fits into an adapter casing that has an AC outlet and audio jack. I tried to connect it to my stereo amplifier input but get no audio. I tried changing the slave/ master jumpers but no go. Does it have to be controlled through the USB  plug or is there a quick mod I can do? Thanks.

There usually is a two pronged connection on the motherboard that the CD audio plugs into.  There is also a ribbon cable that hooks up to the CD drive and a power cable.
