Hello all,

I have a 2005 Dell Inspiron.
I installed iTunes a while back and had problems burning CDs. It wouldn't "finalize".
The CD drive would sometimes disappear from "My Computer". Itunes would tell me that there is no CD drive available.
One day I plugged in a thumb drive and my CD drive reappeared, this time with the drive letter "F" instead of the previous "E".
I ripped a CD yesterday, and afterward I noticed that the CD drive was no longer showing up in "My Computer".
Today, I rebooted half a dozen times. It has helped to reboot before, but not this time. I upgraded iTunes, did a system restore, even looked at the regedit. I have upperfilters but no lowerfilters listed. I ran a virus scan, adware scan, disk cleanup and defragger.
I connected my digital camera via USB, and, as usual, the laptop sees it as a removable drive. I offload my PICs, click the "safely remove hardware", and remove the camera.
I looked in "My Computer", and the CD drive reappeared!

What is causing this, and what can I do?

Thanks.

Have you checked to make sure your driver is up to date or not corrupt?

Awhile back I had a problem like this (the CD missing) it had somthing to do upper and lower filters from one of the burning programs that I had installed...  Found the solution on the net. At the age of 70 I tend to forget where, when and how I did things...
