Hi and greetings to all from me as a new member,

I am having problems with receiving the message, "Windows Explorer has encountered a problem and needs to close."

This  is a pain and when the debug button is pressed, it causes most of the icons in the system tray to disappear.

I find there is a workaround in simply ignoring the notice and pushing it to the bottom of the system tray until I next reboot but I would like to cure the problem.

I find it mainly happens when I connect a separate external hard drive where I keep my music.

I have undertaken thorough scans of the whole computer including the external drive and nothing turned up so I don't think it is that I am infected.

If anyone else has suffered this or can recommend a cure, I would be very grateful.

Thanks,

John

Debugging is really only for programmers who wrote the program which is having the problem.  It is not of much good to anyone else.  So there is no need to debug it.
I would suspect a problem with drivers.

Thanks Ray,
Much appreciated. I didn't realize about debugging. I don't know how I can find which drivers might be faulty though. I have a Hippo driver updater but it hasn't mentioned anything which might affect the issue so far as I can see.
Best wishes,
John

Reinstalling Windows will replace the drivers.  Whether it will fix your problem, I don't know.
