My DVD/CD-ROM is no longer recognized by Windows. It was working fine until a few days ago and then from one day to the next it was not there.

When I go to Device Manager, it's listed there but with the yellow triangle.

When I ask Windows to search on line for driver I get the following:

"The best driver software for your device is already installed ."

"Windows has determined the driver software for your device is up to date"

But my device still not working.

   The yellow triangle indicates that the driver is not properly installed and thus not working.
   Do you have the CD that came with the CD/DVD drive for installing the drive?  If so, uninstall or remove the driver for it in the Device Manager.  Then reinstall the drive using the CD and the instructions that came with the drive.

I had this happen not so long ago, just would not display 'D' drive and in trying to find a phone number for Microsoft, I cheekily contacted one of the comp mags and the chap who I spoke to, I mentioned why I wanted Microsoft's number. He said that he may be able to help but would entail going into the registry. I don't mind, provided I have idiot instructions. He said he would send me the instructions which he did. If you still have this problem then I can upload a copy of the information but I must bring to your attention the warnings that are in the instructions. Perhaps Ray could advice you if you require this information.

Edk, Looking on the info sheet there is the address for microsoft ie;

Have you tried a right click on the drive and select uninstall?

Then reboot your computer and the drive will be reinstalled. If it fails to work after that the working days of the drive are over.
