Wow!  I've been having having quite a time trying to figure out what that nasty Con Hook virus - among others - did to my PC.  I'm getting PID hijacks.  Numerous IEXPLORE.EXE files in my task manager.  It is looping like crazy.  I'm using Kaspersky Internet Security.  It caught the virus after the fact.  There also is something called Fraud Tool, Adware Win32 Virtumonde, Trojan downloader, Trojan-clicker virii that were caught after the fact as well.  But I'm not sure if my system is running OK and that some hacker is looking at all my files.  I know for sure that my System Restore is disabled.  I think my AV wiped out the System Information Folder ( where one of the many viriii lived) which renders my restore points useless.  The restore calander is locked on the date after the virii infected my PC.

My questions are - how can I get this PC back in shape?  And is there any way to get my system restore working again, since the registry seems to be non existent for my system restore to function.

Thanks for reading my post!

Now my IE 6 is running in compatability mode.  There is no choice to change it to XP - where it it lives.  I can't run Java - because of the compatability issue, I can't install Java.  So, until I get solve the IE 6 compatability issue I can't install Java.  I do have a version of Java ( update 6) on here but it is not recognized for some reason.  i was trying to d/l the old 1.4.02 03 on a web site but it will not work due to that compatability isse.

So my PC is a mess right now - any help out there?

Thanks,

The easy way out - buy a new computer.
Learn your lesson not to ever open email attachments and/or do not go to questionable websites (porn sites, warez sites, piracy sites, etc. I am not saying you go to these sites but they do have viruses in them).
The harder way out - save what is valuable onto CD.  Take it to a computer repair shop to have them reformat it and reinstall Windows.  You can reformat and reinstall yourself if you know what you are doing.  If you don't know how to do it, it can be quite a mess.
If your computer came with CDs or a partition for returning your computer to its original state when you purchased it, you can try that.
