If all else fails, you might try deleting all the AVG files (including the folder), restart, then run RegVac (get it if you don't have it!). I don't know if that will clean up every last file associated with AVG, but it might well allow you to start over. I don't know if you are using AVG7 free version, or the full (paid) version. But just for comparison, not knowing exactly what file(s) you're reporting as using 28.83MB, I'm using the free version and the only file even close to that size is incavi.avm at 22.738MB. The next largest file is avgabout.dll at 8.948MB, and avi7.avg at 5.488MB. All other files are <2MB each. The entire AVG7 folder on my computer contains a total of 77 files and 54.9MB, if any of that helps narrow down the problem. I HOPE you're not seeing 28.83MB for the application or application extension files - if so there would seem to be something really wrong there. Also, have you considered going on one of the antivirus sites and let them run an on line virus check of your computer, just in case your AVG has been hijacked by a nasty? I used to use Panda antivirus until their later versions started causing problems that others were also reporting. They still have a free on line virus check at the Panda Site http://www.pandasecurity.com/activescan/index/?track=1&Lang=en-US&IdPais=63. I believe some of the other companies have a one-time option like Panda, also. Don't worry about the problems I mentioned above with Panda - that pertained to their installed software - the on line check is fine, as far as I know (I've used it a time or two since, with no problems).
