My hard drive crashed. i bought a new one and formatted it and installed windows, and some software, including my wireless card (Netgear). Everything was fine and great again. Then i moved to a new house. when i turned on the same computer, having done nothing except pack, move, unpack & setup. i got internet access for about a minute then nothing.  Rebooted, etc., all the usual stuff. When i checked the device manager, there was an exclamation mark in other software for a 'Network Controller.'

The adapter was fine (using it now on this computer) but i bought another, spiffy adapter (Netgear Rangemax Next) anway, installed it and everything was wonderful again...until i turned it off and the next morning turned it on again.

Device manager still wants that d__n network controller. i reinstalled windows. i reformatted the drive and reinstalled window. All to no avail. It still wants that d__n network controller. i have searched the internet, posted on boards, and am distraught at this point.

CAN ANYBODY HELP A GRRL!?!?!

i need internet access and the computer is largely useless to me without it. Pleeez help.

It sounds to me that Windows is not properly detecting your card at startup.  When it fails to detect it, it moves the driver in Device Manager to the Other Devices folder and puts an exclamation mark on it.  When it is like that, Windows no longer tries to detect your card at startup and your card does not work.
I would suggest Uninstalling or Deleting (whichever one is available) the Network Controller in the Device Manager.  Windows should then detect that it has been removed and should prompt you to install the driver for your card.  Hopefully, that will get your card back online.
I would also suggest that you call the Netgear people (or go to the Support section of their website) and ask them why it is doing that.  They should be able to tell you how to fix it.

Sorry, i should have stated that i did that already. i deleted it and restarted and it came up the same, then i disabled it and that was no help either. Neither has Netgear been of help. i cannot imagine what has caused this and why it can't be fixed since everything worked fine before i moved...but now i have reformatted and reinstalled fresh copy of windows.

Any other ideas? Please...

Check this page.

It gives several things to check and what to do if they are wrong.

I'm not expert into hardware but just to give it a try.
You may try to find the network controller driver on the net to update/re-install it. Also, unplug the card and plug it back on. If it is working, restart your computer again to make sure it really works as it sounds working now but not after restarted computer.
When you have restarted it and still asking for the driver, format your computer by using another Windows CD (but not sure if you really need to do this)
