OK, so I'm not a computer expert (far from it), but I should be able to do this simple task!  I have a brand new computer that is running great (built for me by my husband) and want to transfer some of the files from my last backup of my old computer to this new one.  My old computer used a Windows 2000 Professional program.  The new computer is Windows XP.  I don't want ALL of the old files to transfer and, obviously, don't want to transfer the system setup info.  How do I expand that backup file so I can choose what files/documents to copy over to my new computer, which is about half (or less) of what is there?  Or is that not possible?

   What did you use to backup?  What is the name of the backup file?
   If the name of the backup file ends in .zip, then you need a zip extractor to expand the backup file (WinXP comes with a zip extractor built in).  There are other types of files (.cab, .rar, etc) that need their own special extractor to expand the file.
