(Win98SE) It's not happened before but this time I can't get the 'chine to remember some settings. Notably the 'auto arrange' right-click option against folders.

   Did you figure this out?  I know it has been a long time since you asked the question, but somehow I missed it and am just seeing it now.  Sorry about that.
   My guess would be that a registry cleaner is cleaning that out of the registry (if you are using RegVac, that is in the Stash Cleaner and is not cleaned by default).
