Can any of you share any news the new Office 2007? I upgraded but have found the programs to be very slow, especially Outlook 2007. The screens are pretty with the different layout and color schemes, but what happened to the productivity? This is not the beta version so I was hoping all the "bugs" would be corrected. Any ideas to speed it up?

I'm running a 3.2 GHz processor with 1.5 GHz of Ram, Windows XP Pro/SP2. I've checked and have no spyware, adware, or virus on my system but still MS Office programs are slow. So slow in fact I'm thinking of reverting back to 2003 versions.

Thanks!

Do you by any chance run AVG antivirus?  It has a strong tendency to do just what you're describing - especially slow opening.

Rather than spending all the money Micro$oft wants, have you considered Open Office?  It's getting closer and closer to being 100% Office compatible, and has a very similar look and feel.  It quite amazing what's still available for free, particularly a "freeware" version of Office.  Personally, I don't ever plan to spend money on Office again, and only use Outlook at work because that's what the company uses.  At home I've only briefly used Outlook to try it - it took perhaps 3 days to decide to dump it and (in my case at least) go back to Eudora (which also becomes free next month as it becomes open source - we'll see how that goes, though).

I have found the Beta Office 7 Word program to be slow as well. It may be due to my limited graphics card nVidia MX400.
A feature of Word7 I don't like is the inability to remove the border. In Word 2003, I am able to use the entire width of the screen for text. Word 7 keeps a border on each side.
I uninstalled the program and am going to continue with Word 2003.

I finally uninstalled the program as well and reverted to 2003. I tried turning off AVG when working with the 2007 version, but it still was so slow. I had the full version of 2007, not the beta, and if the beta was any slower than the full, well - I find that hard to believe. But thanks to everyone for your suggestions!

2007 is a very "pretty" program with its new screens and color themes, but the productivity is useless in my opinion.
