I thought that E-Machines put a restore function on the harddrive.  On one of the beginning screens it should tell which keys to press to begin restore.
No, restoring the registry does not recover deleted files.
The only other option is to undelete it.  This may or may not work.  You can get File Scavenger for free (at http://www.snapfiles.com/get/filescavenger.html, well, it used to be free.  Now it has a 30 day limit.) which will search the drive for undeleted files and let you restore them.  You should try this one before you do anything else because the more you do on your computer the more likely it is that you will overwrite the deleted files and lose them for good.
Another possibility is to copy the Microsoft Office Works folders from a different computer.  I doubt that it will work, but it is worth a try.
If that does not work, you can always get an Office replacement called Open Office for free (at http://download.openoffice.org/index.html).  It is not quite as good as MS Office, but it is close.
This shows the importance of regularly making backups.

Hi Ray,  I was reading your answer about the "Program Recovery" question and it created a question in my mind.  I do my backups fairly regularly, but I was under the impression that a person could NOT backup actual programs.  I use Win Rescue XP and normally just backup My Documents, My Pictures, etc.  From your answer, it sounds like you can backup programs.  Please clear this up for me and, possibly, for others.  Thank you for your wonderful help, as usual.  MERI

It is true that a person cannot back up an individual program and get all of the drivers and registry settings that go along with it, but you can back up the files just in case they get deleted.  It is especially important that you back up files that you don't have replacements for (like, if you don't have the program on CD or its installation file).
Huntdriver did not remove or uninstall the program and so the drivers and registry settings are still there.  Huntdriver just lacks the files that were deleted.  If those files are restored, then it should work again.
