System Restore has suddenly stopped working. All I get when I activate it, is the following: "There are no restore points created yet for this day. To restore immediately, pick another day and restore point, and then try again." However, it is locked up at this point and none of the usual tab controls work. I can manually enter a new restore point, but it never shows. I have checked to see if my drive is being "monitored" for system restore and it is. If I have a problem, I'm in deep dodo, so please HELP! |

I took your suggestion. It's a possible solution, but I am having a problem locating the "root of the harddrive". I followed the instructions to show the hidden files, but I can not locate the system volume information file. Per chance you can guide me thru on this? Thank you |

The root is just the drive letter. In Windows Explorer when you click on a drive letter, that is the root for that drive. So the root of C:\Program Files\RegVac Registry Cleaner\regvac.exe is C:\. What they are saying is that the System Volume Information folder is in the root of each drive, so on C it is at C:\System Volume Information. |

Thank you for the prompt reply. I can not find the "System Volume Information" folder to modify its name as instructed in the MS bulletin. The folders have been unhidden as per instructions. Thanks again. |

Did you uncheck "Hide protected operating system files"? I think that one has to be unchecked too. |

You must be logged in as administrator to see the folder. It should show up in Windows Explorer as a folder when you click on the C drive. |

I did that and can now see the folder but I am denied entry. I tried renaming, but it would not retain the change. |

Windows does not let you rename the System Volume Information folder if it is in use. I just tried renaming all of mine and two of the four could not be renamed (the one in C was one that could not be renamed). |

Good morning. First, I'd like say that you have been terrific! I want you to know that I appreciate all you have tried to do for my problem. Now back to the problem. I turned off the monitoing of both my drives, rebooted and tried to rename but still "denied". I checked their properties and both folders are empty. Something radical has happened. Per chance some program new or old might be the culprit. What would you think of a XP repair or SP2 repair or both. I know I could lose some stuff or per chance just leave things alone and hope that I will never have to need System Restore. Again, thank you. |

Under properties on the security tab, SYSTEM was the only entry for permissions for the folder. My folder was also listed as empty, but system restore still shows as operating, so apparently this is not relevant to the problem. I added myself to the list with full control and was still unable to rename the folder. If it can only be renamed while not in use, then you would have to use the rename function in the recovery console. [see start\help and support for information on installing the recovery console] |
