Device Manager shows 4 Unversal Serial Bus (USB) controllers under the main catagory "Universal Serial Bus Controllers". Two of the controllers are old NEC universal host controllers, and are no longer attached to the system. The other two are Intel 82801BA/BAM USB universal Host Controllers-2442 and 2444. I've tried to re-install the Intel controllers, but the wizard states "an error occurred during installion of the device". I've tried the "recommended" and the "advanced" methods, and nothing works. I've uninstalled them and scanned for hardware changes, but still no-go. I've gone into Safe mode and did the same, but still no-go.
The bottom line is that until I get Intel 82801BA/BAM USB universal Host Controllers-2442 and 2444 back, my computer installed usb ports will not work. What can I do?

Go to Intel's website and download the latest support files for the chipset on your motherboard.
http://downloadfinder.intel.com/scripts-df-external/Support_Intel.aspx
What you want is the INF Update Utility. This installs the latest version of inf files to allow the chipset to control USB and other computer functions.
