Marlene, you don't say what email viewer you're using (such as MS Outlook or Outlook Express. I use the latter at home.  Under the Edit menu there's a command for "Empty Deleted Items Folder."  Also under the Tools menu there's an Options item. If you click on Options, then the Maintenance tab, there's a box at the top for "Empty messages from the  'Deleted Items Folder' on Exit". I have this checked, and the Deleted Items fold clears automatically when I shut off Outlook Express.

Don't know if any of this is pertinent to your situation, but I hope this helps.

Hello again,
Ok if you have Thunderbird, your problem is not actually a problem.
1. Find the mail folder on your harddrive.
2. Delete the mail folder. Not from inside of Thunderbird just straight with the I. explorer.
3. From inside Thunderbird delete your email account.
Then start from beginning of creating a new account with the same username and password as on the first time you did it!
4. Create a new account for your existing email address. Just follow the setup and directives you get.
In this way you dont have to get a new email address.
5. BUT if the email address you are using is overloaded with spam all the time or other unwanted email, then it is a great idea to change your email address!
This should do it.
triuno.
ps: then goto "SERVER SETTINGS" on Thunderbird and tick on: "LEAVE MESSAGES ON SERVER" + "Until I DELETE OR MOVE THEM FROM INBOX" and "EMPTY TRASH ON EXIT".
With these settings you master your email pretty good!!!ds.
