I have just tried flashing the BIOS on an old mother board - unfortunately with the wrong file. It installed, but of course I get a checksum error. I do not appear to be able to re-flash it with the corrcxt file, i.e. it won't happen !
On most motherboards, you can put a jumper across the CMOS chip, which will cause it to reset to its original BIOS data. After the reset, you should be able to flash it with the correct update.
no - it is, as you suggest, too far gone for that: it does not even get to the BIOS. Anyway, I have discovered I can get a replacement motherboard for £35 (about $60) so I think I shall have to bite the bullet.
Many motherboards have removable BIOS chips. If yours is removable you can buy a replacement. I believe that some services will also reprogram your present chip. Unplugging the BIOS chip works well if you're reasonably careful.
