I have a problem that is aggravating. It has to do
with putting the computer into stand by mode. If I click the stand by
button on the shut down menu or push the sleep button on the key board
the computer goes through the powering down process but as soon as the
light on the tower turns amber it immediately turns back to blue and the
computer powers back up. After it comes back up, I can click or push the
stand by mode and it will power down and stay there. It takes two cycles
to get it to stay. What do I have to do to be able to have it go into
stand by mode on the first button push or click.

I have a HP computer with XP Media Edition. I have just had this computer a month and it had done this every since I got it. It came with Norton AV and Spy Substract. So far HP email support hasn’t been much help.

I solved it. There was a BIOS update for this model of computer, HP m7170n.  I installed it and  that took care of the power down problem.
