Since some months my Windows ZX Home sp2 gives me a message that the Virtual Device drivers are not correctly noted in the register when starting a MSDOS program.
I have the choice to ignore the error or quit. In the register I cannot find anything wrong, I compared wit another computer that did not have the fault and the notation was exactly the same.How do I get rid of this annoying error message?

Only thing I can think of is that something is wrong in

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD

As always - BE CAREFUL when messing with the registry..So please first off open regedit and click file then export. Choose to export the registry to My Documents. This will create a back up just in case.

But I would try this..

Start Registry Editor (Start -> Run -> Type Regedit)
Locate and select the following value:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\VirtualDeviceDrivers\VDD
On the Edit menu, click Delete.
On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click Multi-string Value.
Type VDD in the Value Name box, and then press ENTER.
Quit Registry Editor.

See if that works?

Insert your XP CD into the drive and let it start up, when it does click on exit in the bottom left hand corner but leave the CD in the drive.

Go to Start/Run type in CMD and OK that. When the cmd screen opens type in  sfc /scannow (note the space between the c and /) then press the enter key, let this run until completion.

If you get error messages coming up keep click on Retry as needed.

Itried your remedy, The scan took long but produced no error messages. The fault however did not dissappear. Thanks for the suggestion anyway.

Sorry that failed Mark, I honestly don't know what to tell you now.

Have you considered posting your problem on the microsoft.public.windowsxp.general newsgroup, there are some very knowledgeable people there.
