There are severall live-cd's with Linux for free, For example Knoppix. Then you can read the disk.
Or is this not what you want?

If you have a "live" Linux disk just put it in your CD drive and reboot. Check that the BIOS settings are set to check for boot files on the CD before the fixed drive.
