I find that RegVac will show upwards of 300+ items found while a scan is actively running but will only actually remove 70-80 if I haven't used it for a while, or only about 20 or 21 upon subsequent scans if done within a short time of the first scan.

I've tried repeatedly running scans throughout a day and even though the scan seems to show 300+ while the scan is going, and only removes about 20-21 items upon completion, by myself manually and continuously repeating the scanning process RegVac shows I've removed even upwards of a thousand items "today".

What is the relation of the 1000 total removed to the 300+ found by RegVac while it is scanning ? Ie, I can't grasp why I have been able to remove many hundreds more than RegVac is actually showing as "found" during it's scan.

I asked a similar question a couple of years ago, because RegVac started removing way fewer items than it had in the past and Ray answered that many more Registry items are locked by Micro$oft nowadays.

Am I actually accomplishing that more items are being removed the more I repeat the process or is it just a pointless exercise on my part ?

A New Bible Built with Modern Technology

New Testament - Breakthrough Version

www.breakthroughversion.com

The Breakthrough Version achieves a much higher level of accuracy. It is:

  • more literal
  • more precise
  • more contemporary
  • more correct
  • more consistent

This Bible even translates hundreds of forgotten Greek words that no other Bible does.

It is an essential tool for Bible teachers and students, yet it is easy to read, even for newbies.

My response a couple of years ago should have been the same that I will give you today.  There are two reasons why all of the entries are not removed.
One is that they cannot be removed.  RegVac tries to remove them but Windows does not allow it.
The other reason is that RegVac did remove the entries but they were added back by some other software.  I suspect that this is what is happening and that the 1000+ entries removed are actually some of the 300+ entries removed many times.
So if you scan and find 300+ entries, you remove them manually, then you run RegVac and it finds the same 300+ entries (because they have been added back by software running in the background) and you remove them, then you run RegVac and it finds the same 300+ entries (because they have been added back by software running in the background) and you remove them, then you run RegVac and it finds the same 300+ entries (because they have been added back by software running in the background) and you remove them, then you run RegVac and it finds the same 300+ entries (because they have been added back by software running in the background) and you remove them, and so on.  You can see that you quickly get up to 1000 but RegVac is still finding only 300+.
The advice that I give (and I assume that I also gave it to you a couple of years ago) is not to obsess over this.  Run RegVac once a day or once a week and what it removes it will remove.  Some items will not be able to be removed and others will be added back in, there is nothing you can do about them.  Any other bad entries will be removed by RegVac and they will stay off.  Running RegVac a million times a day will not improve anything.  It will just waste your time.

Ok, thanks (again lol) Your answer IS pretty similar, although you provided a bit more detail this time. So I'll just rely that it is doing it's job. And thanks again for your great efforts to help our computers run smoothly.
