I'm with Ray on this, but it does rather depend on which of the many types of SSD devices you use. My fastest server has SSD devices for my most hit database, and at peek times it registers thousands of IO operations per second, and yes defragmenting does squeeze an extra few hundred IOps out of them. But these are SERVER disks and are designed for IO operations over a 3 year life which would kill some SSDs in a couple of months. As for trying to give some guides I think Ray is being a bit optimistic as this is such a fast evolving technology that anything posted here will probably be out of date in a few weeks. |
