I recently disconnected my second SATA hard drive. The other SATA drive is my "C" drive and has Windows XP and most of my software and data on the "C" partition. of this disk
I have now replaced the second SATA drive. It is showing in the BIOS and I have used the Auto detect procedure to detect the drive. However it steadfastly refuses to appear within Windows. Nothing shows in Device Manager or in Disk Management. as it is a Seagate drive ,I have also tried Seagate's Disk Wizard (this brings up  Acronis the same as my installed Acronis backup program). I have removed disks before and replaced them with no problem. This has got me perplexed. Any ideas?

Further to the above post re HARD DRIVE. I have made a mistake. The hard drive is not showing in BIOS. In fact the reference is "IDE CHANNEL 3 MASTER   [NONE]". The entry i mistakenly thought was the missing hard drive is "IDE CHANNEL 0 SLAVE [HL-DT-STDVDRRW GW4-4]". This being the dvd re-writer. I have exchanged the SATA connections between the two SAT hard drives and both connections work with the good drive. Therefore the conclusion I draw is that the secondary hard drive is malfunctioning.

As a further comment with regard to the problem hard drive. The hard drive is perfectly serviceable. When connected via a usb external multi drive connection device it works perfectly and all the files are accessible. Put back into the computer and conect the SAT cables, nothing shows in the BIOS. Am at a loss to solve this.
