In June a document was produced using Word. This was saved as xxxxxx.doc. This was a quote for a job and was printed and sent to the client. I have recently attempted to acces this file without success. I can find a shortcut to the correctly named file but windows then attemps to access the file but then reports that it cannot do so because the file has been changed or moved. A search for the file brings up no result. Searching for *.doc brings up a list of .doc foles but the one I require is not listed. It is not beyond the bounds of possibilities that the program was closed without the file being "saved".   but I cannot understand why there is a shortcut with the correct file name still existing on the computer. It is not in the recycle bin either. Can anyone help please

The shortcut is there because the file used to be there.  Somehow the file was deleted but the shortcut was not deleted.  So now you have the shortcut but not the file.  It has nothing to do with closing the program without saving.  It sounds like the file is gone.
