Hi, using XP and IE7 when creating a shortcut of a webpage onto my desktop, a unique icon (usually colorful) is created making it easily recognized for quickly returning to that webpage in the future .
However since my desktop is full, I must move some of these icons to a folder. When dragging the icon to the folder the icon is lost and only the bland blue IE icon with description remains in the folder.  How can the original usually colorful icon be saved in the folder when dragging from desktop to a folder?
Thanks for your help.

The Breakthrough Version achieves a much higher level of accuracy. It is:

  • more literal
  • more precise
  • more contemporary
  • more correct
  • more consistent

This Bible even translates hundreds of forgotten Greek words that no other Bible does.

It is an essential tool for Bible teachers and students, yet it is easy to read, even for newbies.

Open the folder and click on "View" in the top menu and choose "Icons" in the drop-down menu.

Favicons are stored in the Temporary Internet Files folder. If IE is set to clear this folder upon closing, then the icon will be lost.  After you create your shortcut on your Desktop and before closing IE, do this:

Open your Temporary Internet Files folder (Location is shown in IE > Tools > Internet Options > General tab > section Temp Internet Files > Settings).  Search this folder for *.ico.  You will see your icon with the name Favicon.  Copy this file and paste it into a folder of your choice, like C:\My Documents\MyFavicons.  Rename the icon to be meaningful to you. The file type must be "ico"

To install the icon permanently, right-click the link of the shortcut you saved on the Desktop and select Properties. Select Change Icon. Select Browse and go to the MyFavicons folder and select the icon you placed there. Click Apply and OK out.  Now you can move the shortcut anywhere and you will retain the icon.
