My winnt directory has some errors in it but I can still run windows 2000.
Some of the small icons in windows look a bit strange though but its basically OK.

I am trying to do an restore windows 2000 from dos to repair any damage that may have been done to my winnt registry.  I dont want to repair the winnt directory  via win2000 in windows as it gave me errors.

When I go into the win2000 boot disk dos version of winrescue and try to restore the backup under "another type of crash" option I get the message that “Old registry not found in c:\winnt\system32\config”

But I know that the registry files (default, sam security, software, system and user) are there in the c:\winnt\system32\config directory.
My computer is configured normally for windows 2000.
What do I do now to restore the winnt directory off some cd’s onto my c drive?

Can someone help me please?

The DOS version wants to know the Windows directory, not the location of the registry.  Your Windows directory is c:\winnt.
