This seems to be the only place on this
board that I can use....

Tried SpeedStartup for the first time and had
a couple of problems.

Seems that NvCplDaemon is mis-described as
being related to some viruses.  When I disabled
it the display settings I had made for my NVidia
graphics card weren't used so I re-activated it
and the display is now back to normal.

After following the instructions re: IP Adressing I had
no connection (ADSL2)  and Win XP couldn't "repair"
it - which it has to do quite often and what I was trying
to avoid.

Had to reset to the previous of letting Win do the work
each time I boot my computer.

When you look at the description, you have to look at all of them and choose which one applies to you (I tried to make this clear in the instructions).  When it is listed as a virus, it is just saying that there are viruses that use that file name too.  Speed Startup takes the least dangerous description of those found and ranks the item at that ranking.
If you specify the wrong IP address numbers, it will not work (the instructions state this).  Some computers are different as to what numbers can be used.  If you put the correct numbers in there, it will work.  The numbers that we gave are just suggestions and examples that work for many computers but will not work on all computers.  It all depends on your setup.
