My laptop is a Toshiba Satellite L25, running WindowsXP. My D drive is missing, I've gone through Toshiba Help & Support, various newsgroups, Microsoft help and followed everthing down to the registry. I will copy and paste the fix-its that I've tried:
______________________________________________________________________________
REGEDIT4

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}]
"UpperFilters"=-
"LowerFilters"=-

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdr4_2K]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdralw2k]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Cdudf]

[-HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\UdfReadr]
_______________________________________________________________________
then rebooted, Didn't work, I went into registry to see if it worked, could not find these keys at all. I've tried to import the above keys in the registry BUT nothing.
I've used Guided Help in Windows help forums and it won't worked either, it says upper filters & lower filters registry values that can cause cd access problems, do not exist.
I've got 50+ hours trying to solve this issue so I can run my dvd/cdrw.
When I click START/RUN/d:/  I get a message "This refers to a location that is unavailable.
No Icon in "My Computer" either, although it has popped in there a couple ofn times then disappears again, What's up with that???
I've seen throughout all my inquiries on the internet that this is a common problem
Just want to get the right info to fix this. Technically I'm above average, especially after this one, Please help! and be as explicit as possible...Thanks LindaLou

On some Toshiba satelites the is a single screw that holds the CD Drive. Try removing it and reseating your drive.

I've come to the conclusion that this is a Hardware issue. Thanks Snakeeyes, I will fetch a screwdriver and try this.
