Hello All,

Have a problem with my DVD writer. It reads recorded discs OK., but refuses to write to a blank DVD-RW disc. I get the following message when I put the disk in the drive
Disk is not formatted
Windows cannot read from this disk. The disk might be corrupted, or it could be using a  format that is not compatible with Windows.
I initially thought that the discs were u/s, but 5 in a row! I have erased several in my laptop computer and successfully copied data to one. So assume that the discs are OK. Is this likely to be the DVD writer failing or is it software related?
Regards,
Wychwar

first step should be try the manufacturer's website to see if there is a firmware update for the DVD writer.
Whilst you are there, find their compatibility list of DVD media. Most of them list which discs are known to work with thier DVD writer.

I have the same problem running XP PRO SP3 up to date. Apparently MSN driver does not recognize DVD drives and I've had to use different soft ware to use my drive as a DVD.  Burnaware gives the option whether you want to create a CD or DVD and it is free. I don't know of the VISTA driver will do or not.
