AVG will still free. Go to the Grisosoft site at

For some unknown reason many people are misinformed about this matter. What is happening is that the free version of 7.5 will no longer be supported and you must download and install version 8 which is still free if you want it.

I suggest that you look at the processor use and RAM use of Avira Antivir Personal Free, AVG Free, Avast!, or any other free antivirus before you decide. You can ask or observe this on friends, kith, or kin's computers.  Before I Installed any security apps I hardened my OS, XP Pro SP3, by disabling unneeded Services and activating IPSec policies for my computer. I recommend that you use a good router; you can buy one for under fifty dollars.Learn and practice safe email and surfing habits.

Thanks for all the good info.  I downloaded the 8.0 version of AVG.  I had used the older versions for several years.
