I was about to order a new larger hard drive for my computer when a friend advised that my motherboard was not equiped to use the Serial ATA hard drive that I had in mind.  Also he said that it was not compatable with Acronis Disk Director that I curently have installed.  I knew that Acronis was not compatable with the Vista Beta 2, but did not know that any problem existed  with the SATA drives.  I am aware that  a SATA cable was necessary to instal the drive, but was not aware that would not work with my motherboard Intel D845GERG2--D845GEBV2.  Where do I go from here?

Take a look at this link, it compares 22 different SATA and ultra ATA hard drives.
You should be able to find one you can use.

If your motherboard doesn't support SATA drives, you can install a controller card to connect to a SATA drive.
