I had a problem with OE sending and receiving e-mails that was fixed. Some how my connection to the internet is listed as "Connected thru Network", and I have a direct broadband connection. How can I correct this?

If I understand you correctly, I believe that "Connected thru Network" is correct. Network basically means any connection other than dial-up. OE sees broadband as a (very large) network.
