Excerpts from How to be Right - Romans

The Good News Reveals How to Be Right
1.16 You see, I am not ashamed of the good
news of the Messiah. It is power from God to
save the life of everyone who trusts (Jew first
and also Greek).
1.17 When a person trusts, the good news reveals
God's right way, which is trust. That is
what is written in Habakkuk 2:4 where it says,
“The person who will live by trust is right.”
Ray's CommentsTrust is Right16 Paul was not ashamed to tell the good news that
the Messiah had come and the Messiah is Jesus.
The good news is power from God that saves lives
but only the lives of those who trust.
17 When they trust in the good news, God reveals to them that the
right thing to do is to trust God. This is the main
theme of this book.
Review Questions (verses 16-17)1. How is the Messiah good news?
2. How is this good news power that saves?
3. What must a person do so that his life will be
saved? Who can do this?
4. Why is trust important?
Messiah – this book uses the word, Messiah, often. The Old
Testament prophesied about a conquering king who would
come to rescue the Jews, make them a world power, and
bring God’s way of doing things to the world. He would be
from the linage of King David. By the time of the New Testament
he was called the Messiah in Hebrew and the Christ
in Greek. Down through history many have claimed to be
messiahs. The Jews still look for the Messiah today. Paul
names Jesus as the Messiah. He replaces the law and will
rescue everyone who trusts Him.
