I have found that the search feature of Windows does not always work.  For example, I put in *.obj as my search criteria and searched my development directory.  The utility found no files even though there were a number of OBJ files in this tree.

I did a chkdsk /f on the drive.  This took quite a long time to complete (at reboot time) but there was no change.  I ran RegVac which found no errors.

Any suggestions?

   Are the OBJ files hidden or system files?  I don't think Search will find hidden files.

The OBJ files are neither hidden not system files.  Since posting my message, I have been doing more digging as to the state of my system.  I think that I may have some disk problems.  When doing a chkdsk c: /v I get the message
      Deleting an index entry from index $0 of file 16735
repeated several times and then the message
      An unspecified error occurred.

Using chkdsk c: /f does not fix the error so I am thinking I may have to  reformat my hard disk.
