I have been using WinRescue 2K for my Windows 2000 system for a long time.  It is great.  These are the files I save when I save "my registry":
   X - Registry
   X - autoexec.nt (WinConfig)
   X - config.nt (WinConfig)
   X - cmd.exe (WinConfig)
   X - command.com (WinConfig)
   X - ntldr (WinConfig)
   X - ntdetect.com (WinConfig)
   X - boot.ini (WinConfig)
   X - bootsect.dos (WinConfig)

I am going to buy WinRescue XP for my new system.  Will you please tell me which files to save in order to save the registry on Win XP.  I know there is a category called "Registry" but I thought other files should also be saved, like I have been doing for Win2K.
Thanks.

I would suggest the items that are marked by default.  The registry is all contained in the Registry item.  Other important files are those identified as (WinConfig).

Thanks very much, Ray.  WinRescue 2K has saved me many times. It will be one of the first programs I put on my WinXP system.  Out of curiosity, does the System Restore function in WinXP do the same thing as using WinRescue XP to restore the registry files?

No, System Restore also keeps track of changes that have occurred and will then restore those things back to the way they were before during Restore.  System Restore does not give you the option to not restore those things back which means that you may lose some things during Restore that you did not want to lose.
