I have been using Win Rescue for years.  Recently the message:

The following files could not be copied
Software Key

is being displayed after Win Rescue has run.

I am using Windows XP Professional.  Do you have any suggestions?

Using RegVac to backup the registry works.

I don't know.  It sounds like something is interferring with the backing up of the Software section of the registry.
WinRescue and RegVac use the same processes to back up the registry.
